| The Simple Reason Why Most Patterns Don’t fit | ||||||||||
| I’ll
tell you the simple reason why most patterns do not fit your body, and
I will give you all of the tools you will need to once and for all, to
make every pant you make fit your body.
The reason why most of the commercial pant patterns do not fit your body is they are not made with you in mind! Those patterns are made to fit an averaged ideal of a woman’s figure .....and each pattern company has a different opinion of what that ideal figure is!! The real truth is, it is impossible to make one pattern fit everybody! You probably do not have this “ideal” body!....I know that I don’t !! This is why those patterns will never fit well...a better way to get good fitting patterns is to make the patterns according to your own body measurements! This is what I will help you do and I promise you that it is very, very easy! Remember: You don’t have to have a perfect body to make clothing that fits your body perfectly!! There is no such thing as a perfect body, but well fitting clothes always look great, and clothes that don’t fit well always look horrible!! So stop wasting your time and money! Having clothing with a great fit for your body is the only way to give your sewing projects that professional look. The other pattern companies should give you the tools needed to fix their patterns, but they have been successful without doing so. pant pattern!
This
is how you do it..................................
There are a few simple rules you must remember. 1. “Your” basic pant pattern does not have seam allowance, so you must always work within the seam lines on the store bought patterns, not the outside lines which is also called the seam allowance line. 2. Always buy the store bought patterns that are closest to your size. Use the measurement charts provided by the pattern manufacturer to determine which size you will need. With those two rules in mind, lets start making “your” pants fit.
A. The first thing to determine is the length. The crotch line is the center, so you’ll need to match the crotch lines, with “your” pant on top of the store bought pattern. Above the crotch line, measure the difference between the top of “your” pant and the waistline on the store bought pattern. Add or subtract the necessary amount to make the bought pattern match “your” pant. Use the lengthening or shortening lines provided on the bought pattern. Note that the distance may be different at the center back and center front, than the side seams. If this happens it is O.K., just be sure to open or close the same distance on front and back side seams so that the side seams match when you sew them together. Below
the crotch line, measure the difference between ”your” hem, and the
store bought hem. Lengthen or shorten as necessary, again using the
lengthening or shortening lines provided on the store bought patterns.
Follow the same instructions on the front and back.
B. The second thing you’ll need to do is correct the shape of the crotch, and make sure the width is good for your hips. Again match the crotch and slide “your” pant towards the center back until both back waistlines meet as in diagram (a). The first thing to notice is the width of the hip line, if “your” pant is wider than the store bought pattern at the crotch line, then you bought a pattern that is to small. Now that your patterns are matched on the crotch lines, trace “your” crotch shape on to the bought pattern. Also if the crotch is on the inside of the stitch line , add that amount to the side seam and blend in at the hip level. See diagram (b). But if the crotch is on the outside of the stitch line, just blend into the leg seam line. See diagram (c). Note that changes to the front and the back crotch may be different than one another, and that’s O.K. Also don’t forget to add seam allowances where it’s necessary. That’s all there is to it! But
